ECCLPs Virtual Annual Forum Symposium Call for Proposals

We invite interested agencies, tribal governments, organizations, researchers, undergraduate and graduate students, as well as individual participants to submit their proposals for workshops, poster sessions, climate change communication experiences, exhibitions, and sponsorship. These experiences are integral parts of our event, offering a platform for us to come together to get a pulse on PK-12 climate and environmental literacy in California. The event will center on taking collective action to educate, activate, and empower all California students to be environmentally literate in climate and environmental justice issues and solutions. We look forward to proposal submissions that align with multi-, inter-and transdisciplinary learning, culturally relevant and linguistic relevance, equity and justice, honoring traditional ecological knowledge, and fostering student agency while developing 21st century skills.

Themes and Big Ideas

Proposals should focus on at least one of the following big ideas to advance environmental and climate literacy, justice, and action:

  • Multi-, Inter- or Trans-disciplinary Learning: Proposals that bridge multiple disciplines through interaction and integration by encouraging collaboration within and beyond schools.

  • Culturally or Linguistically Relevant Pedagogy: Proposals that celebrate cultural diversity by honoring students’ funds of knowledge, traditions, languages, and perspectives.

  • Equity and Justice: Proposals that focus on dismantling systems of oppression by addressing environmental justice, or the fair treatment and meaningful involvement of all people.

  • Indigenous Traditional Ecological Knowledge: Proposals that center on Indigenous knowledge and recognize human connections to the natural environmental and previous generation as teachers of sustainable living.

  • Activating Student Agency: Proposals that center on empowering students to take action through solutions and systems oriented approaches to solve real world problems.

  • Developing 21st Century Skills: Proposals that focus on climate or environmental literacy, critical media literacy, mental health support, leveraging artificial intelligence, and other skills essential for students to be successful in a changing world.

Note: ECCLPs is deeply committed to centering marginalized voices, ideas, and ways of thinking. We recognize the importance of amplifying diverse perspectives, cultures, and experiences as part of our initiative. We will give priority to proposals that reflect our commitment through the inclusion of historically marginalized voices.
